Hours and Minutes: The Lemonade Stand
Millie, Zoe and Mia run the Lemonade Stand on a sunny street corner! They squeeze lemons, sell cups and count how long the stand is open. Here we work with hours and minutes together.
Remember: Count the whole hours first, then the extra minutes. From 9:15 to 10:45: 9:15 โ 10:15 is 1 hour, and 10:15 โ 10:45 is 30 minutes, so 1 hour 30 minutes. After 12 the clock starts again at 1, so from 11:00 to 2:00 is 3 hours.
Magic trick: 1 hour = 60 minutes, so 1 hour 15 minutes = 60 + 15 = 75 minutes, and 2 hours = 120 minutes.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Lemonade Stand and find:
- ๐ฅค Find the 8 cups on the tray. If the girls sell 1 cup every 15 minutes, 8 cups take 8 quarter hours: 2 hours.
- ๐ Find the 3 pitchers. If each pitcher lasts 1 hour, the 3 pitchers last from 10:00 in the morning to 1:00 in the afternoon.
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
