Millie & Biscuit

Challenge, Earth's Layers: Millie's Kitchen

In Millie’s Kitchen, Grandma Bea has baked a round Earth cake and cut out a slice, so you can see its three layers. A peach cut in half shows the same idea: a thin skin, a thick juicy middle and a hard pit.

Remember: Earth has 3 main layers. The crust is the thin, rocky outside where we live. The mantle is the thickest layer: very hot rock that moves very, very slowly. The core in the middle is made of metal, mostly iron: the outer core is liquid and the inner core is solid. The deeper you go, the hotter it gets.

Magic trick: A peach is a little Earth: skin = crust, juicy middle = mantle, pit = core.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of Millie’s Kitchen and find:

  • 🎂 Find the Earth cake. A thin crust on the outside, a thick mantle under it and the core in the very middle.
  • 🍑 Find the bowl of peaches and the peach cut in half. In the cut peach: skin = crust, juicy middle = mantle, pit = core.
  • 🥣 Find the 3 mixing bowls. Earth’s 3 main layers: crust, mantle and core.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
