Doubling Patterns: Farmer Daisy's Sunflower Patch

Something magic grows in Farmer Daisy’s Sunflower Patch: every new planter has double the sunflowers of the one before! 1, 2, 4, 8โ€ฆ A doubling pattern grows faster and faster.

Remember: Doubling means times 2, not plus 2. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32: each number is the one before added to itself.

Magic trick: Check the jumps! In an adding pattern every jump is the same. In a doubling pattern every jump is bigger than the last one (1, 2, 4, 8โ€ฆ).

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of Farmer Daisy’s Sunflower Patch and find:

  • ๐ŸŒป Find the 3 planter boxes. They have 1, 2 and 4 sunflowers: each box has double the one before. The next box would have 8!
  • ๐Ÿฆ Find the bluebirds on the fence. Count them: 3 bluebirds. Doubled, that would be 6.
  • ๐Ÿฐ Find Farmer Daisy with her watering can. She waters every sunflower, and the patch keeps doubling.
  • ๐Ÿฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
