Counting On: The Frog Pond Hop
At the Frog Pond, the frogs love to hop along the lily pads. Some hop 2 pads at a time, some 5, and the biggest frog jumps 10! Each jump is the same size, so the numbers make a counting on pattern.
Remember: Counting on means adding the same number every time. Counting on by 5 from 3: 3, 8, 13, 18, 23. Each number is 5 more than the one before.
Magic trick: Look at the last digit! Counting by 10s, it never changes (4, 14, 24, 34). Counting by 5s, it takes turns between two digits (3, 8, 13, 18).
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Frog Pond and find:
- ๐ชท Find the line of lily pads. There are 10 lily pads. Hop by 2s from the start: pads 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. That’s 5 hops to reach the end!
- ๐ธ Find the 3 frogs. Every frog hops the same size jump each time, so its hops make a pattern.
- ๐ชฐ Find the dragonflies. Count them: 5 dragonflies zooming over the water.
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
