The Sun Is a Star: The Sunny Balcony

Welcome to the Sunny Balcony at the top of the Star Tower! Professor Luna Moon has set out her telescopes and sun hats, because today she is studying the closest star of all: the Sun.

Remember: The Sun is a star: a giant ball of hot, glowing gas that makes its own light. It is the closest star to Earth, and Earth and the other planets travel around it. Never look straight at the Sun, and never through a telescope or binoculars!

Magic trick: Every star you see at night is a sun too, just very, very far away. Our Sun looks so big and bright only because it is so much closer.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Sunny Balcony and find:

  • 🔭 Find the 3 telescopes. They all have their caps on: Professor Luna Moon never points a telescope at the Sun!
  • 👒 Find the 4 sun hats. Hats and shade keep you cool in the warm light of our star.
  • 🌻 Find the 6 sunflowers. Plants need the Sun’s light to grow.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
