Higher and Farther: The Star Party
It’s a Star Party at the Star Tower! Professor Luna Moon draws the night sky on a grid, so every star has its own point. Stars higher in the sky have a bigger second number, and stars farther to the right have a bigger first number.
Remember: To find which point is higher, compare the second numbers: (2, 6) is higher than (6, 2). To find which point is farther right, compare the first numbers. The bottom line of the grid is the x-axis, and the side line is the y-axis. A point like (5, 0) sits on the x-axis, and a point like (0, 4) sits on the y-axis.
Magic trick: X is a cross, so it goes across! The x-axis lies across the bottom, and the y-axis stands up the side.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Star Party and find:
- ⭐ Find the gold stars on Professor Luna Moon’s grid board. There are 6. Each star sits at its own point on the grid.
- 🛌 Find the sleeping bags on the terrace. There are 3, side by side, ready for the Star Party.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
