Magnets Through Things: Octavia's Magnet Fishing
At Mermaid Lagoon, Octavia the octopus runs a Magnet Fishing game! Toy fish, each with a steel paper clip, swim in a glass tank of water, and a magnet on a string catches them right through the water.
Remember: A magnet can pull without touching. Its pull goes through water, paper, plastic, glass and thin cardboard. The pull is stronger close up and weaker farther away. Gravity and magnetism both pull without touching, but magnets pull only on things like iron and steel.
Magic trick: A magnet’s pull is like a voice: loud up close, quiet far away.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Octavia’s Magnet Fishing at Mermaid Lagoon and find:
- 🐟 Find the 6 toy fish in the tank. Each has a steel paper clip, so a magnet can pull it through the water.
- 🎣 Find the 2 magnet fishing rods. One in Octavia’s tentacle and one leaning on the table.
- ⭐ Find the 3 starfish on the sand. No paper clips on them, so a magnet would leave them alone.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
