Sound Is Vibration: The Octopus Tea Party Band
Boom, crash, twang! At the Octopus Tea Party, Octavia plays in the band with all 8 of her arms: drums, cymbals and a little harp, between sips of tea.
Remember: Every sound is made by something vibrating: moving back and forth very quickly. A drum skin, a harp string and even the vocal cords in your throat vibrate. The vibrations travel to your ear, where a thin skin called the eardrum vibrates too. When the vibrating stops, the sound stops.
Magic trick: Hum with your fingers on your throat. Feel the buzz? That buzz is a vibration, and it is your sound!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Octopus Tea Party and find:
- 🥁 Find the 4 drums. When Octavia hits a drum, its skin vibrates and makes the sound.
- ✨ Find the 3 cymbals. A cymbal shimmers and vibrates for a long time after a crash.
- ☕ Find the 6 teacups. If the drums are loud enough, the vibrations can make the tea ripple!
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
