Shadows: The Shadow Puppet Tent
Welcome to the Shadow Puppet Tent in the Fairy Garden! One bright lamp shines on a white screen, and puppets in front of it make dark shapes for the little bunnies watching the show.
Remember: Light travels in straight lines. When something blocks the light, it leaves a dark place behind it: a shadow. A shadow is on the side away from the light, and it has the shape of the object’s outline. Move the object closer to the light and its shadow gets bigger.
Magic trick: Point from the light, through the object, and keep going straight: that is where the shadow lands. When the Sun is high, shadows are short; when it is low, they are long.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Shadow Puppet Tent and find:
- 🌑 Find the 3 shadow shapes on the screen. A bunny, a bird and a star: each one is made by something blocking the lamp’s light.
- 🐰 Find the 4 little bunnies watching the show. Their shadows fall away from the lamp too!
- 💡 Find the bright lamp on its stand. Its light travels in straight lines, so it can’t get around the puppets.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
