Tally Marks: The Lemonade Stand
Welcome to the Lemonade Stand! Zoe and Mia sell yellow, pink and purple lemonade, and they keep track of every cup with tally marks on their little chalkboard. Count the lemons, the cups and the pitchers too!
Remember: Draw one line for each thing. The 5th line goes across the first 4, making a bundle of 5. So 1 bundle and 2 more lines means 7.
Magic trick: Count the bundles by 5s, then count on the single lines: 5, 10, 15… 16, 17!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Lemonade Stand and find:
- ✏️ Find the chalkboard tally. 1 bundle of 5 and 2 more lines: count 5, 6, 7. That’s 7 cups sold!
- 🍋 Find the row of lemons. Count them: 6 lemons. As a tally that’s 1 bundle and 1 more line.
- 🥤 Find the pitchers. Yellow, pink and purple: 3 pitchers, one for each flavour.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
