Making a Whole: The Puzzle Garden
In the Puzzle Garden, every giant puzzle is made of equal pieces. When all the pieces are in, the puzzle is 1 whole, and its fraction has the same top and bottom number, like 8/8.
Remember: To find what makes a whole, ask “how many more parts until the top number matches the bottom number?” 3/8 + 5/8 = 8/8 = 1 whole.
Magic trick: Count up from the top number to the bottom number: 3… 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 is 5 more, so you need 5/8.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Puzzle Garden and find:
- 🧩 Find the big puzzle of 8 pieces. 3 pieces are pink and 5 are blue: 3/8 + 5/8 = 8/8, one whole puzzle!
- 🟨 Find the little puzzle of 4 pieces. 1 yellow piece and 3 green pieces: 1/4 + 3/4 = 1 whole.
- 🌼 Find the row of 6 flower pots. 2 have red flowers and 4 have yellow flowers: 2/6 + 4/6 = 6/6 = 1.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
