Fractions and Wholes: The Bunny Farm Market

At the Bunny Farm Market, Farmer Daisy the bunny sells eggs in cartons of 6. A full carton is 6/6: one whole carton. Fractions can show wholes too!

Remember: When the top and bottom numbers are the same, the fraction is 1 whole: 4/4 = 1, 6/6 = 1. When the top is a multiple of the bottom, it’s more wholes: 8/4 = 2. And any whole number can be written over 1: 3 = 3/1.

Magic trick: Read 8/4 as “8 fourths”. 4 fourths make 1 whole, so 8 fourths make 2 wholes.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Bunny Farm Market and find:

  • πŸ₯š Find the 2 full cartons. Each is 6/6, one whole carton. Together they are 12/6 = 2 whole cartons.
  • πŸ₯š Find the empty carton. It has 0/6 of its eggs: zero.
  • 🐰 Find Farmer Daisy the bunny. She packs every carton with 6 eggs, so 6/6 is a full carton.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
