Sound-Alike Challenge: Mermaid Lagoon
Welcome to Mermaid Lagoon, the place for the big challenge! Surfboards stand in the sand, little fish swim through a rock arch, and a treasure chest made of wood sits on the beach. Every word from this deck comes back here, all mixed up.
Remember: First listen to the whole sentence, then ask what the missing word means. Is it a thing (board, wood, steak, stake, brake, flea, cent, scent, guest)? Something you do (pause, choose, waste, flee, break)? A feeling (bored)? Something that already happened (threw, sent, guessed)? Or a little helper word (would, whether, through)? “Would you like to swim through the arch?”
Magic trick: Swap in the meaning! If “smell” fits the gap, write scent; if “money” fits, write cent. If “stop” fits, write brake; if “rest” fits, write break. The meaning tells you the spelling.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Mermaid Lagoon and find:
- 🏄 Find the 3 surfboards standing in the sand. A surfboard is a board you ride on the waves.
- 🐠 Find the 4 little fish swimming through the rock arch. In one side and out the other!
- 🪵 Find the treasure chest made of wood. Would you like to peek at the pearls?
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
