Challenge: The Snail Race
It’s race day in the Fairy Garden! Four snails crawl along straight lanes, and Princess Ruby measures how far each one goes in metres. Put the decimals in order to find the winners, and solve the two-step stories!
Remember: To put decimals in order, give them all the same number of digits and compare from the left: 0.6, 0.45, 0.5 become 0.60, 0.45, 0.50, so from smallest to biggest they go 0.45, 0.5, 0.6.
Magic trick: Zeros on the end are free: write 0.6 as 0.60, and the order is easy to see.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Snail Race and find:
- 🐌 Find the 4 racing snails. Which one has crawled the farthest? If they crawled 0.6 m, 0.45 m, 0.5 m and 0.38 m, the order from first to last is 0.6, 0.5, 0.45, 0.38.
- 🍄 Find the row of 6 toadstools. Count them: 6 toadstools.
- 🐞 Find the 3 ladybugs on a leaf. They’re cheering for the snails!
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
