Two-Step Challenge: The Star Tower Star Party
Professor Luna Moon is throwing a Star Party at the Star Tower! These are challenge problems: each one needs two steps, a multiplying step and one more step.
Remember: Read the whole story, then plan: first multiply the equal groups, then add, take away or share what the story says. 6 rows of 25 cushions and 20 more: 6 × 25 = 150, then 150 + 20 = 170 cushions.
Magic trick: After the first step, stop and ask: “Is that what the question asked?” If not, take the second step!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Star Tower Star Party and find:
- 🌙 Find the cushions. 4 rows of 6: 4 × 6 = 24 cushions. If 6 friends bring their own, that’s 24 + 6 = 30 seats: two steps!
- 🔭 Find the 3 telescopes on tripods. If 12 children look through each telescope, then 3 × 12 = 36 children take a peek.
- ⭐ Find the 5 star lanterns. Can you count them all?
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
