Multiplying Stories: Coach Nora's Sports Day
It’s Coach Nora’s Sports Day! There are teams, baskets of balls and cones everywhere, and Coach Nora needs to know how many of everything. That’s a job for multiplying!
Remember: In a story, look for equal groups: “6 boxes of 24 balls” means 6 × 24. Then split it: 6 × 20 = 120 and 6 × 4 = 24, so 120 + 24 = 144 balls.
Magic trick: Say it as “groups of”: 6 groups of 24. If every group is the same size, multiply!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Coach Nora’s Sports Day and find:
- ⚽ Find the 4 ball baskets. Each has 5 balls: 4 × 5 = 20 balls.
- 🔶 Find the 6 cones. Zoe runs past all 6 cones 12 times: 12 × 6 = 60 + 12 = 72 cones passed!
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
