Millie & Biscuit

Ocean Animals: Mermaid Lagoon

Octavia the octopus welcomes you to Mermaid Lagoon, where dolphins leap, sea turtles glide and a friendly whale blows a spout of water. They all swim, but they are not all fish!

Remember: Whales and dolphins are mammals: they breathe air through a blowhole and feed their babies milk. A shark is a fish: it breathes with gills. A sea turtle is a reptile: it breathes air and lays its eggs on a sandy beach. An octopus has 8 arms.

Magic trick: Watch who comes up for air! Blowhole = mammal, gills = fish, scaly shell = reptile.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of Mermaid Lagoon and find:

  • 🐳 Find the whale’s spout. Whales breathe air through a blowhole on top of their heads.
  • 🐬 Find the 2 dolphins. Dolphins are mammals, not fish.
  • 🐢 Find the 3 sea turtles. Sea turtles are reptiles that lay their eggs on the beach.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
