Angles on a Clock: The Clock Shop

Tick, tock! In the Clock Shop, every clock’s two hands make an angle. At 3:00 the hands make a right angle, and at 6:00 they make a straight line.

Remember: A clock’s hand goes all the way round in a full turn of 360°. The 12 numbers split that turn into 12 equal jumps, so from one number to the next is 30°. We measure the smaller angle between the hands: 1:00 is 30°, 2:00 is 60°, 3:00 is 90°, 4:00 is 120°, 5:00 is 150° and 6:00 is 180°.

Magic trick: Count the jumps between the hands, not the numbers, then count by 30s: 3 jumps is 30, 60, 90°.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Clock Shop and find:

  • 🕰️ Find the wall clocks. There are 6, in 2 rows of 3: 2 × 3 = 6 clocks. A hand going all the way round a clock turns 360°.
  • ⏰ Find the alarm clocks on the counter. There are 3. From one hour to the next, the hour hand turns 360° ÷ 12 = 30°.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
