Two Names at Once: The Fairy Garden

In the Fairy Garden, every triangle has two names: one for its angles and one for its sides. Lily is sorting the fairies’ triangle signposts, and toadstools line the winding path.

Remember: Every triangle has a name for its angles (acute, right or obtuse) and a name for its sides (equilateral, isosceles or scalene). A right isosceles triangle has angles of 90°, 45° and 45°. An isosceles or scalene triangle can be acute, right or obtuse, but an equilateral triangle is always acute.

Magic trick: Angles first, then sides: “right and isosceles”, “obtuse and scalene”.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Fairy Garden and find:

  • 🪧 Find the 4 triangle signposts. Each one gets a name for its angles and a name for its sides.
  • 🍄 Find the 5 toadstools. Red with white spots, all in a row.
  • 🚪 Find the 3 fairy doors. Who lives behind them?
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
