Challenge: The Playground by the Lemonade Stand
Challenge time at the Playground by the Lemonade Stand! There are swings, a slide and a seesaw, and next door Millie’s friends sell lemonade. Every problem here needs two ideas about forces.
Remember: Use everything: forces are pushes and pulls, gravity pulls things down, friction slows things down, magnets attract iron and steel, and unbalanced forces make things speed up, slow down or change direction.
Magic trick: Ask two questions: which forces are there, and which one is stronger?
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Playground by the Lemonade Stand and find:
- 🛝 Find the slide. Gravity pulls you down it, and a smooth slide has little friction.
- ⚖️ Find the level seesaw. When it stays level, the forces on it are balanced.
- 🍋 Find the wagon with 3 jugs and the 4 glasses. The heavy wagon needs a strong pull to get it moving.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
