Board and Bored, Wood and Would: The Fairy Garden
Welcome to the Fairy Garden, where the fairies are building a little bridge! They have a pile of wood logs and six flat wooden boards, and one sleepy frog looks very bored because he has nothing to do.
Remember: A board is a flat, long piece of wood: “The fairies need one more board for the bridge.” You also play a board game on a game board. Bored is how you feel when there is nothing fun to do: “The frog is bored.” Wood is what trees are made of: “The bridge is made of wood.” Would is a helper word for wishes and polite questions: “Would you like to help?”
Magic trick: Bored ends in ed, like other feeling words: tired, scared and excited. Would is spelled like its cousins could and should: they all end in o, u, l, d. Wood has two o’s, just like tree has two e’s.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Fairy Garden and find:
- 🪵 Find the 6 wooden boards leaning on the mushroom. A board is a flat piece of wood.
- 🌳 Find the 3 logs of wood. Wood comes from trees.
- 🐸 Find the frog who looks bored. He has nothing to do. Would you like to play with him?
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
