Challenge: Mental Math at the Rainbow Fair
It’s a big day at the Rainbow Fair! Tickets, prizes and treats: every stall has a quick two-step puzzle. Use your best tricks (making 10, adding 9, doubles and rounding) and solve them in your head.
Remember: Two steps, one at a time. Work out the first step, then use that answer in the second step. Check the end with a quick estimate.
Magic trick: Say each step out loud: “First… then…”. Pick the friendliest trick for each step.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Rainbow Fair and find:
- 🦆 Find the 8 rubber ducks. 4 yellow and 4 pink: double 4 is 8 ducks.
- 🧸 Find the 5 teddy bears on the prize shelf. If each bear costs 10 tickets, count by 10s: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 tickets for all 5.
- 🎪 Find the 3 tents. Pretend each tent holds 100 visitors: 100, 200, 300 visitors!
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
